Old Swan Minster Mill partners with Asthall Manor for its ‘on form’ sculpture exhibition
Great Hotels of the World (http://www.ghotw.com), the London-based hotel sales and marketing alliance, is pleased to announce that member hotel the Old Swan Minster Mill has joined forces with Rosie Pearson of nearby Asthall Manor for their 2012 Biennial ‘on form’ sculpture exhibition.
Taking place from 18 June-15 July, ‘on form’ 2012 will showcase works from 28 sculptors, whose philosophies, life stories and techniques are as diverse as the stone they carve. This is the sixth and largest exhibition at Asthall Manor, and to complement the exhibition further, ‘on form’ has partnered with the Old Swan Minster Mill to showcase sculpture in the hotel’s grounds.
Guests visiting the property can enjoy a gorgeous walk through the countryside from Old Minster to Asthall Manor along the River Windrush. Asthall Manor occupies a medieval site but dates from the seventeenth century, and was home to the legendary Mitford sisters at the beginning of the last century. The ‘on form’ 2012 exhibition will showcase 169 sculptures in the property’s exquisite grounds and gardens and will stretch into St Nicholas’ church next door, the Potting Shed café and the Old Swan Minster Mill. A series of events have been programmed to explore aspects of the working lives of the sculptors and celebrate the unique atmosphere of the Manor and its gardens, including painting and drawing workshops, talks, artist demonstrations and music performances. Guests are also invited to touch the sculptures to not only experience the shape and texture of the works but also the temperatures of the stone.
The Old Swan Minster Mill has put together a special package for the exhibition. The offer includes a two-night stay, sumptuous daily breakfast, an afternoon tea, three-course dinner each evening, a self-guided walk to Asthall and two tickets and catalogue to the ‘on form’ sculpture exhibition. The package is available from £255 per room per night.
The Old Swan Minster Mill was recently awarded an AA Red Rosette for its food. The restaurant serves a gastro-pub menu using only local and fresh produce, with constantly changing menus inspired by the kitchen’s gardens. The most recent creations include ice creams in different flavours, such as rhubarb, green apple, blueberry and basil, pink geranium, and honey and lavender – all from the hotel’s garden.
